Vontrigger Spring is located in the Mojave National Preserve southeast of Baker, California. The site has a handful of pictographs and a few petroglyphs. Note that according to the public land map this location borders very close upon some private property. There appears to be an open pit mine nearby.
To get there from the north take I-15 Exit 286. Follow the Nipton Road for 3.4 miles, turn right onto the Ivanpah Road and continue for 35.1 miles (the Ivanpah Road becomes the Lanfair Road when it reaches Lanfair). Turn left and proceed 1.9 miles to where you can park (35.05365, -115.14739) before hiking the remainder of the way to the spring. If coming from the south take I-40 Exit 115 and drive north on the Lanfair Road for 17.4 miles to the turnoff.
Included with this post is the GPS file and map that we plan to use for our first visit. If you don't want to wait for us to get around to it feel free to try the GPS file and map for yourself. With no guarantee, of course, but they most often prove valuable for us.
