Ayers Rock

GPS planning file and map.

Ayers Rock is a large boulder with some pictographs on it that is located in the Coso Range east of Coso Junction, California. To get there, turn east off of US 395 at Coso Junction onto the Gill Station Coso Road. Follow the paved road for 3.9 miles and turn left onto Forest Road SE-435. From there it is another 4.8 miles to the trailhead. Stay to the right at each fork in the road until you get to the turnoff right before the pumice quarry. Loose powder in one place that is up to 6 inches deep will make the Forest Service road difficult for 2WD highway vehicles. For turn-by-turn directions enter 36.10401, -117.83865 into your driving app. Those directions should get you within 0.37 miles of the trailhead where all you need to do is follow the sign to the left.

Included with this post is the GPS file and map that we plan to use for our first visit. If you don't want to wait for us to get around to it feel free to try the GPS file and map for yourself. With no guarantee, of course, but they most often prove valuable for us.
