Indian Well Petroglyphs

GPS planning file and map.

The Indian Well Petroglyphs, aka Lanfair Butte, are located southeast of Baker, California in the Mojave National Preserve. The well known site has a large number of petroglyphs scattered on hillside boulders above Indian Well.

To get there, take I-15 Exit 286 and follow the Nipton Road east for 3.4 miles to the Ivanpah Road. Follow the Ivanpah Road for 28.9 miles and turn left. After another 1.3 miles go left again and in 1.2 more go right. Indian Well will be about 4 tenths of a mile further.

Entering 35.14544, -115.15908 into your driving app will get you turn-by-turn directions that will get you as far as the nearby Eagle Well. If you skip the turnoff to Eagle Well you can take the route that we indicated which has no gates to bother with.

Included with this post is the GPS file and map that we plan to use for our first visit. If you don't want to wait for us to get around to it feel free to try the GPS file and map for yourself. With no guarantee, of course, but they most often prove valuable for us.
