Palakuè Pictographs

GPS planning file and map.

The Palakuè Pictographs are located along the Kern River south of Lake Isabella. The pictographs are on private property on the west side of the river. The panel of back, white, and red pictographs measures 5 feet high by 35 feet long and can be easily seen from the side of CA-178.

For turn-by-turn directions enter 35.61049, -118.49071 into your driving app. Heading south from the junction of CA-155 and CA-178 for about 1.4 miles and find a safe place to pull off onto the shoulder of the highway about 600 feet past the Elizabeth Norris Road Exit 42.

For photos and a good description for this site and about 70 others in the Owens Valley you can download Bill Petry's book Rock Art of the Owens Valley or, if you can find one, purchase a copy from eBay.

Included with this post is the GPS file and map that we plan to use for our first visit. If you don't want to wait for us to get around to it feel free to try the GPS file and map for yourself. With no guarantee, of course, but they most often prove valuable for us.
