Black Mountain Ruin

GPS planning file and map.

The Black Mountain Ruin near Globe, Arizona is one of those redoubt type ruins that are built on hilltops, mountain tops, or buttes. There are 2 other ruins, Griffin and Jackson Buttes, of a similar nature in the same area. To get there, drive east from Globe on US 60E for 18.2 miles and turn left onto Haystack Butte Road, FR 303. Follow that for 4.5 miles and turn left onto FR 645, go 1.7 miles and bear right for the final 0.2 miles to the trailhead. It should then be about 3 tenths of a mile hiking to get to the top of the butte. For turn-by-turn directions enter the coordinates for the trailhead ‘33.65752, -110.68387’ into your driving app.

Included with this post is the GPS file and map that we plan to use for our first visit. If you don't want to wait for us to get around to it feel free to try the GPS file and map for yourself. With no guarantee, of course, but they most often prove valuable for us.
