The Page Tank Ruin is located southeast of Winona, Arizona. Found at the site amongst a scattering of pottery are the rubble pile remains of what once was a pueblo that probably had no more than 10 or so rooms.
We haven't tried the route that Google Maps likes when you enter the GPS coordinants of 35.16162, -111.35511. Like the one that we took it probably also requires a 4WD vehicle. (We didn't use 4WD but it seemed like the suitable choice.) From I-40 Exit 211 turn south and then go east. After a short distance go left and follow the road that parallels the south side of the interstate heading east.
At the 3.8 mile point turn right onto 9168V. A little past this spot is where a 4WD vehicle might be needed. If you began hiking from here it is just under 1.5 miles to the ruins.
After about a quarter mile the road climbs a short hill and comes to a fork where you will want to go left onto 9168U.
After another 0.9 miles the road will pass just west of the ruins. From that point it is about 2 tenths of a mile cross country to the elongated mound of ruins.
The ruins are in the shape of a long block that looked to contain about 8 individual rooms.
As near as we could tell from what is exposed on the surface the wide walls were made of a dry stack construction without the benefit of any mortar to cement the stones together.
The profusion of potsherds strewn about the site is of every variety common in the area and of a quantity that seems to suggest a long period of habitation.
The Page Tank Ruins are just 1 of the 15 ruin sites that we found marked on an old topo map of the area. Each of the ruins are unique in their own way and interesting to visit although most of them are little more than piles of rubble with a scattering of pottery. As far as the Page Tank site goes, if you would like to see it for yourself all you have to do is 'Take a hike'.
