Casa Grande Ruins National Monument is located in the Sonoran Desert at Coolidge, Arizona about midway between Phoenix and Tucson. The monument is the site of a prehistoric Hohokam farming community where visitors can see the still partially standing ruins of a "Great House" that stands 4 stories high. The Hohokam are known for the extensive canal system that they built here in the desert to supply water for the many farming areas that supported the large population of the area.
