Painted Rock Camp is located on the edge of the San Rafael Wilderness in the Los Padres National Forest near Santa Barbara, California. Just north of the camp in a rocky outcrop there are some Chumash pictographs. More pictographs are reported nearby in Lion Canyon and elsewhere. California condors are also frequently seen in the area.
There is a very long 27.25 mile driving route via the Sierra Madre Road that will take you right to the camp. For turn-by-turn directions using that route enter Painted Rock Camp into your driving app.
An alternative 10.4 mile (one-way) hiking route is via the Aliso Trail which begins at the end of the Aliso Canyon Road. For turn-by-turn directions using that route enter Aliso Park Campground into your driving app.
