Horse and Rider Pictograph

GPS planning file and map.

The Horse and Rider Pictograph is located just outside of the Anza Borrego Desert State Park in the Piedras Grandes Cultural Preserve. The location that we are showing for the pictograph is a 'best guess' as there is a trail leading to that spot. The area of the canyon is small so the pictograph should perhaps not be too difficult to locate once in the area.

It is only possible to get turn-by-turn directions to the end of the Mortero Wash Road at Dos Cabezas. For those enter 32.74805, -116.13905 into your driving app. It is 4 miles down the Mortero Wash Road to Dos Cabezas where the route will cross the railroad tracks and continue on the Tank Piedras Grandes Road for an additional 1.3 miles. At that point turn right onto the Piedras Grandes Road where it is 1.4 miles to the end. Since this is a Cultural Area it might be worthwhile to explore that last 1.4 miles carefully looking for all points of interest.

Included with this post is the GPS file and map that we plan to use for our first visit. If you don't want to wait for us to get around to it feel free to try the GPS file and map for yourself. With no guarantee, of course, but they most often prove valuable for us.
