Canaan Wash

GPS planning file and map.

The Canaan Wash Petroglyphs is a site near Colorado City, Arizona that we haven’t visited yet. The petroglyphs are in Utah, 1 mile north of the Arizona border. Nearby there are also a couple of water glyphs that we have labeled as Apple Valley Water Glyph I and II.

To get there from Colorado City drive west on Uzona, a road that runs along the Utah/Arizona border, for 2.9 miles and turn right. Continue for another 2.1 miles and turn left. From there it is another half mile to the petroglyphs. We've heard that it is possible to navigate the wash near the end and drive all the way to the petroglyphs but we will have to wait and see it for ourselves. It would be a very short hike if a person parked before the wash.

The Apple Valley Water Glyphs look like they can be hiked up to from this same spot. They appear to be all the way on top of the mesa but we don't have any details other than their GPS waypoints. We made a general route from the wash up to both glyphs.

Included with this post is the GPS file and map that we plan to use for our first visit. If you don't want to wait for us to get around to it feel free to try the GPS file and map for yourself. With no guarantee, of course, but they most often prove valuable for us.
