The Hawkeye trail is located in the Kokopelli Loops Area near Loma and Mack, Colorado. The trail begins at the Hawkeye trailhead off of the Hawkeye Road where it climbs a singletrack route that takes it up to a junction with the Mack Ridge trail. The trail was professionally designed to take advantage of various rock features that give mountain bikers a few more advanced options to take advantage of. Even though the trail was designed with mountain bikers in mind it also gets a lot of use from hikers.

Kokopelli Trail (7)

The Kokopelli Trail is a multi-use trail that stretches for more than 140 miles between Loma, Colorado and Moab, Utah. The trail is made up of various single track mountain bike trails, back roads and jeep trails. It generally takes 3-6 days to complete the entire length of the trail depending upon how you choose to go about it. Some might tackle 1 or 2 sections of the trail at a time using a support team to move their camp from one location to the next. Bikepacking is another option that some mountain bikers use. There are also guide services that can be hired that will setup and stock camps along the route or you might drive to Moab and drop off a vehicle and setup your own camps on the way back. Our method was to first break the trail down into smaller sections, giving each one a name of our making, so that we could better describe the trail for this site. We then set out from Loma making use of a support vehicle and completed each section. That freed us from having to carry the extra weight of camping gear and not have to worry about filtering water along the way. The maps on this page and those with each section follow the mountain bike route. Those that are using jeeps or OHV's will have to take alternate routes in several places to avoid any sections of single track.
