The Kirkwood Spring Petroglyphs are located near Mono City, California. The site includes images on boulders along the base of a hill that stretch out for an hundred yards or so.
To get there from Mono City head north on US-385 for a half mile and turn right on CA-167. Continue for 6.4 miles and turn left on Cottonwood Canyon Road. After another 1.3 miles turn right onto the Dobie Meadow Road and follow that for 3.2 miles and park on the left. For a somewhat different route with turn-by-turn directions enter 38.13593, -118.97665 into your driving app. This will keep you on CA-167 for 16.5 miles and bring you in from the opposite direction.
From where you park follow the fence up to the edge of the tree line and begin searching to your right for a couple hundred feet to where the petroglyphs begin. Once you find where they begin keep exploring for another hundred yards or so.
Included with this post is the GPS file and map that we plan to use for our first visit. If you don't want to wait for us to get around to it feel free to try the GPS file and map for yourself. With no guarantee, of course, but they most often prove valuable for us.
