The South Fork Road Petroglyphs are located west of Eagar, Arizona. The main panel of petroglyphs are on a short cliff that is only a few feet off of the pavement. Other petroglyphs can be found higher up in the same area.
To get there, drive west on AZ-260 for 5.4 miles and turn left onto CR 4124.
Continue for 1.45 miles where the petroglyphs will be on your right. For turn-by-turn directions enter 34.08815, -109.40309 into your driving app. There aren't any good places to park right in front of the petroglyphs.
The petroglyphs that are next to the road can be seen easily without getting out of your vehicle but they are located on a curve. Stopping in the middle of the road probably isn't advisable if there is any traffic.
In the center of the panel there is a flute player.
Near the top is what looks like a thunderbird; or a bird anyway.
Two men or one man with 4 arms? This same image can be found elsewhere in the southwest.
To the left is this forearm with a big hand.
This long figure might be a falling, or deceased, man or it might be a female that died giving birth. Or it might be something else.
We spotted a few more petroglyphs on the cliff before we reached the panel next to the pavement but decided not to get a closer look than what our zoom lens could provide. We were told that this ram is rather a local celebrity.
As you can see we were able to pull all the way off of the road a little before reaching the petroglyphs. Besides the petroglyphs that we saw further back up the road where the bighorn was we were told by a local that there are also more petroglyphs up behind the main panel that is right next to the road. We learned that piece of information after our initial visit so maybe the next time that we are in the area we will do more exploring. If you would like to see the South Fork Road Petroglyphs for yourself then all you have to do is 'Take a hike'.
