The Double Eagle Loop is part of the Mountain Village Nordic & Snowshoe Trails near Telluride, Colorado. The trail begins near the intersection of Mountain Village Blvd. and Russell Drive where it follows a groomed route down the 14th and 15th fareways until it reaches the Galloping Goose Ski Run and comes to an end.

To get to the start of the Double Eagle Loop turn off of Highway 145 onto Mountain Village Blvd. at the signs for Mountain Village and the Ski Area. Take the first left onto the Adams Ranch Road and park in the pullout on the west side of the road about 100 yards from the intersection. From the Wilson Loop trailhead follow the Boulevard trail for just over 6 tenths of a mile. There is a crosswalk at the point where the Boulevard trail kisses up against the road that leads to the start of the Double Eagle Loop.

Once on the north side of Mountain Village Blvd. the groomed trail cuts across Russell Drive.

After crossing Russell Drive the trail continues past a shelter.

A short distance later it begins a long gradual descent along the side of the hill.

The mountains on the east side of Telluride provide a scenic backdrop as the trail travels out in the open down the 14th fareway.

At the bottom of the hill the trail bumps up against Russell Drive and levels off.

At the 15th hole the trail splits with routes traveling along both sides of the fareway.

After passing the green both routes reconnect and the trail continues along a scenic route through the trees.

As the Double Eagle Loop emerges from the trees it reaches the Galloping Goose ski run and comes to an end.

At this point there is an option to continue down the side of the ski run to the Elk Crossing trail and looping back to the trailhead by combining that trail with the Skunk trails.

For this post we simply turned around at the Galloping Goose ski run and returned the way we came. The Double Eagle Loop is a nice addition to the rest of the Nordic and snowshoe trails that offers some different views of the area and opens up more possibilities for a longer outing. If you would like to see it for yourself then all you have to do is 'Take a hike'.
