Funicular is a short trail in Red Rocks Park near Denver, Colorado. The trail connects the Upper North Lot, near the Amphitheatre, with a small parking area that is along a lower access road. A steep staircase that provides a lift of about 100 feet to the trail makes it a good workout.
The trail begins on the east side of the Upper North Lot.
The whole trail, which is just under a quarter mile one way, can all fit in one picture. As you can see it is almost all steps.
The short trail is in a nice setting with plenty of appealing scenery to enjoy.
At the bottom of the stairs the trail turns into a hard packed surface and comes to an end at a small parking area along the road that runs between the Trading Post and the Lower North Lot.
The big fun comes when going in the other direction. Doing the stairs at Red Rocks is actually a pretty popular pastime for exercise junkies. Maybe Funicular with its handrails to hold onto would be a good workout for beginners.
Red Rocks has all sorts of short connecting trails for getting around the area and for getting to and from the parking areas and the amphitheatre. Since they gave this one a name and slapped trail signs on it we felt obligated to include it with the rest of the great trails in Red Rocks Park. Besides that, it is pretty. If you would like to see it for yourself then all you have to do is 'Take a hike'.
