Largo Wash, or Largo Canyon, is located east of Bloomfield, New Mexico where after turning off of US-64 it extends southward for over 40 miles. This post is for 5 petroglyph sites that can all be found within a single 2 mile stretch of the road.
For turn-by turn directions to the first site enter 36.58919, -107.67673 into your driving app. From US-64 you will be directed onto CR 4450 for 13.2 miles where the first site will be on your right near the road. From there it is easy to find the other 4 sites and any that we may have missed.
The above images are a few of those from the first site.
The second site is a large area that the BLM has enclosed with a fence. Sadly, there isn't a kiosk at the site to explain their intention in doing so but we're guessing that the images and inscriptions have some historical significance that they especially would like to protect. The images include a mix of both prehistoric Native and later Spanish people.
The 3rd site has one very nice panel that is easy to miss that was probably Navajo in origin among other images both historic and prehistoric.
The 4th site is mostly, but not all, historical images. Notice the perfect arrowhead to the right of the crack in the above image.
Besides the historical images at the 5th site there is the panel in the photos above that has 2 recurved bows, a corn plant, a bird, and some lion tracks.
Many more petroglyphs and pictographs can be found on both sides of the wash up and down Largo Canyon for those that have the time to search them out.
