The Cave Canyon Petroglyphs are located in the Montezuma Creek area east of Blanding, Utah. The site includes more than a score of petroglyphs that are grouped on 5-6 different panels.
If coming from Blanding by way of the Perkins Road the turnoff to the petroglyphs will be on the left about 1,200 feet after turning off of the Perkins Road onto the Montezuma Creek Road.
After tuning off of the Montezuma Creek Road it is another 600 feet to the petroglyphs.
The panel all the way on the left is one of the better ones of the group.
Maybe an ancestor.
Interesting figure with concentric circles for its head.
This is the next panel over.
This panel is down low on another boulder. More concentric circles and other vagaries.
The rest of the panels are on the inside of a coral that is inaccessible.
If we were to give this panel a name it might be 'Dancing Sheep'.
Concentric circles with a line that passes through a sheep and extends all the way to the edge of the boulder.
More sheep. They are easy enough to see when you are there in person but kinda far away for taking photos.
The Cave Canyon Petroglyphs are a pretty small site compared to what is right around the corner at the Montezuma Creek site but they are still interesting and well worth the little time that it takes to look them over. If you would like to see it for yourself then all you have to do is 'Take a hike'.
Our BLM map shows that this is all private property although it isn't posted. They don't seem to mind whether people drive over to look at the petroglyphs but it wouldn't be a proper place to camp. The fence around the coral seems to have been built not only to keep the cows in put to keep people out as well. There are a few more images down at the north end of the corral.
