Eagle's Tail is part of the Lunch Loop Trail System in Grand Junction, Colorado. The upper end of the trail begins at the end of the Eagle's Wing trail where it connects to High Noon. From there it takes a downhill route that gets technical at times for mountain bikers as it follows a path that winds its way through large rocks and boulders. As it works its way down the mountain it is connected to by the Andy's Loop and Pet-e-kes trails before coming to an end at the Tabeguache trail a short distance from the trailhead.

This post begins at the top of the Eagle's Tail trail where it connects with the High Noon and Eagle's Wing trails and follows it in the downhill direction.

As the trail starts out around the knob of the hill it passes a very scenic hoodoo that is on the right hand side of the trail.

The trail stays relatively easy as it skirts around some truck sized boulders.

The route gets rougher as the trail works its way down a rocky ridge where baby heads and loose rocks fill the space between the larger stuff.

The trail continually plays with the natural features of the ridge always taking the funnest route possible.

Right around a third of a mile from where it started Andy's Loop breaks off on the left.

From that intersection the trail speeds up and gets quite a bit easier.

There are still a few more advanced features mixed in with a lot of mostly smooth dirt track.

This downhill jump on the right has an optional route between the rocks.

As the trail continues it winds its way down the mountain and into the badlands where the Pet-e-kes trail branches off on the right.

From there the trail takes an incredibly scenic route through a dry wash and comes to an end at the Tabeguache trail. The main trailhead is less than a half mile to the left at this point while miles and miles of other trails await in all directions. Whether hiking or biking Eagle's Tail is a great scenic route in the Lunch Loop Trail System. If you would like to see it for yourself then all you have to do is grab your bike or 'Take a hike'.
